5. How did Coca-Cola come to be?

John Pemberton was the creator and founder of Coca-Cola.  He was born July 8, 1831, in Knoxville, Georgia.  He was drawn toward alternative medicine.  He became a student at South Botanico Medical College in 1850.  He began his work as a steam doctor (Donovan).  John moved to Columbus, Georgia after getting tired of sweating patients.  He married Clifford, and they had a child named Charles.  Opening a drugstore, his business thrived.  He wrote a letter to his mother-in-law telling her of his success.  He had to close his store because a Civil War had broken out (Donovan).  He became a lieutenant colonel for the Third Georgia Cavalry.  He quit and formed his own militia cavalry.

Coca-Cola was made because it was a medicine.  The medicine that was made was to help headaches go away.  People thought that Coca-Cola symbolized American life (Green).  Of course Coca-Cola was made to make some money for the company.  The United States of America government made Coca-Cola the number one in the country.  It satisfies the thirsty and it helps the weary.  They also started to create different kinds of Coca-Cola (Green).  The other reason why they made it was because it pleased every person who tried Coca-Cola.

Most of the strategies that Coca-Cola used was for getting money for themselves.  They accidently added carbonated water to the syrup instead of using water.  The carbonated water made the drink more bubbly, which the customers liked a lot (Blanding).  They also used advertising to get more customers to come and buy some Coca-Cola.  After that, they put Coca-Cola in some bottles so people could take it home to drink.  The next thing they put Coca-Cola in, was a curved glass.  They also gave out coupons for people to get some discounts (Blanding).

Coca Cola is a carbonated beverage enjoyed around the world.  Some people thought that Coca-Cola was the best drink ever.  The drink was the world’s largest beverage company.  People said the Coca-Cola drink helped their headaches go away.  Over the years, the company tried making other kinds of Coca-Cola beverages (Maupin).  One was Coca-Cola Life, which was made with stevia.  Another new beverage was New Coke.  They tried to make the drink sweeter, and it tasted bad.  Its main ingredients that are in Coca-Cola are syrup, cocoa bean, and carbonated water.  It is best served cold.  People said that the drink tasted better bubbly, so they left the carbonated water in.  they also added low-calorie drinks in this process (Maupin).

Coca-Cola came to be by John Pemberton mixing in different ingredients to make a headache medicine.  It was created as a tonic.  Someone mixed in some carbonated water instead of plain water (Green).  They served Coca-Cola in bottles and then in glasses to get more customers.  Then, they started to sell them in cans, which people liked what they put it in.  They had mascots to make people come and want to buy Coca-Cola.  They also had some jingles that were played on the radio to get more customers to come and buy some of it (Green).
